Hi guys and girls
We started a blog for this trip. It will be easier to keep track of the planning decisions and interesting links. And also keeping in touch among ourselves and posting news and pics to family and friends.
So far we'll be a group of 6 and our main travel period will be 2, 3 and 5 weeks from the 22nd Oct. Yes 2 lucky monkeys could take 5 weeks off hehe... ;)
See you all on the blog.
... and don't forget to feed the fish!
Thierry & Akiko
Lets start with the slogan of this block :) We shouldn't mess with who?! The Gohan? Dragon Ball Z? :)
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Joop
Some serious business now: we have been emailing and talking about getting a foreigner Japan rail pass. It is really recommended to get one as one-way tickets are rather expensive in Japan.
ReplyDeleteFor some general information regarding transportation in Japan, check this site:
http://www.japan-guide.com/
You will find tons of other interesting information.
It looks like that ordering a Japan rail pass is quite easy. You order one via this site:
http://www.jrpass.com/
They will ship a temp pass to your own address which you have to hand in at one of the trainstations in Japan (Narita for example). There you will receive the real JR pass. Total costs for 2 weeks: 404 euro's.
For your information: I asked for the possibilities to delay my return flight for a couple of days, but it is not looking good.. As you check current ticketprices, you will see why.. ;) So probably I will stick with 2 weeks.
Joop
Hey :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome site Thierry! i fed the fish, very important:)
Joop, thanks for the information on the railway passes, i'll check out the links and order one today!
Thierry, sorry i could not join the skype event yesterday...this is a good replacement though...as i said i have just started gearing up for this trip now, and i will start to dig a bit deeper into the mysterious culture of japan....he he liked the links for the singing language teacher quite catchy actually, and the Hostel (ninja) looked cool:) I will give you a call next week. If i have some more questions and maybe some ideas i'll post them here.
i was just wondering is it possible to do some racing (track days) etc? that would have been so much fun, i know that drifting contents are popular in japan!? (thats just an idea from my side)
I checked out some more about vaccination...it looks like i have to update mine due to expiring....punishment for being old...he he the woman talked about hepatitis A,tetanus immunisation and diphteria. I am getting my shots tomorrow...
well, thats for all now folks!
Take care!
Thank you for rail pass information. We will check it out.
ReplyDeleteGohan means "rice" in Japanese, and in japan, it is forbidden to waste rice.
Humm, I am not so familiar with racing spots in Japan. During the trip, if we see some interesting spots or activities, why not?
We are touring with 6 creative people. We will find and create fun activities anyway.
From now, we can set up the major touring route and cities and start booking accommodations. Personally, we are really interested in visiting Izu Islands (Izu Shoto)areas during Oct 26th - 29th. I think that islands provide what we want to do. Check out the area!!
Hej everybody!
ReplyDeleteSorry for the silence so far. I'm not so used to planning holidays (but I understand it's very useful in this case). I'll have a look at the Izu Islands. Nice design Thierry, this blog. I don't know how much you had to do it yourself, but I really like the background :)
Don't mess with the gohan! I'm really looking forward! O pai pai, Marlies
The Izu Islands look great! For Dutch readers a link of someone else's blog: http://erikenaafkeintokio.blogspot.com/2009/06/izu-shoto.html
ReplyDeleteAt the end of their message, there's a link to pictures (click on "hier").
It looks like the yen is going in the right direction for us? Nice tools on this page!
sleep well! Marlies
Hello all,
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately it was not possible anymore to delay my return flight, so I will fly back to Europe together with Magnus.
Just a few minutes a go I ordered the JR rail pass for 14 days. I think it is a great deal, especially because we are going to travel quite a bit. Have you guys ordered a pass as well?
The Izu islands are beautifull! Would be great to go there by ferry and see Japan from the water.
Do I understand you correctly that you are planning to book some accomodations in front already? Or will we sort these things out when we are in Japan?
joop
I received my JR pass!! :)
ReplyDeleteHej everybody,
ReplyDeleteWe're thinking of ordering a cheap tent via Amazon in Japan, so we can camp if the weather and location allows it. (Didn't do it yet)
Just one week and one day to go!
groetjes, Marlies
